New Road Project in Bolivia

Mano a Mano is currently constructing a road that will connect the communities of Canon Verde and El Palmar in the department of Chuquisaca, Bolivia. Roads in Bolivia are either nonexistent or little more than flattened dirt paths, making travel difficult, slow, and often dangerous.

Roads are vital in improving the lives of these communities,
creating a safe method of transportation and providing access to transport their produce to city markets, where they can get a better price. In many of these communities, having a road can shorten what before was a multiple-day journey into only a few hours. Building roads in these areas is a very difficult process. Mano a Mano uses its heavy equipment to clear out the dense vegetation and mountainous terrain; in many areas local volunteers are needed to manually move the large boulders and logs that slow progress.

The project is 21% complete, with 12 kilometers of road finished; the final road will be 56 kilometers. To date, Mano a Mano has constructed or improved more than 1,000 kilometers of roads throughout Bolivia.
